Overview

The county of Kauai adopted the following codes:

• The International Building Code, 2006 edition.
• The International Residential Code, 2006 edition.

County of Kauai, County Code, § 12-2.1 (IBC and IRC adopted) with amendments at § 12-2.2 (IBC amendments) and § 12-2.3 (IRC amendments).

Residential Building Code

County of Kauai adopted the 2006 IRC, locally. Note that adoptions usually come with amendments. So, it is important to review those amendments in addition to the unamended model code.

2.     Existing State-owned buildings undergoing repair, alterations or additions and changes of occupancy shall be permitted to comply with the International Existing Building Code, provided the extent of the work does not exceed 50 percent of the appraised value of the building.
